The two exhibitions present the best press photographs from Switzerland and around the world. One of the most important qualities of a press photo is its truthfulness. World Press Photo Yearbook 2025 (English)

Independent photojournalism and documentary photography are indispensable tools of political education for a democratic society and an essential part of shaping public opinion—especially in our so-called 'post-factual' times. In recognition of this, the independent non-profit organization World Press Photo Foundation, based in Amsterdam, has been presenting the World Press Photo Award for the best photo, the best story, the best longterm project of the year for more than six decades. The winning images in the various categories tell bold stories and provide invaluable insights into the state of our world. The award-winning photos will be announced at the same time as the book launch and presented in a traveling exhibition. So it is and remains extremely exciting to see which works will be selected from thousands of submissions—and of course which photo will be the actual cover illustration! Furthermore, 2025 marks the 70th anniversary of the foundation. This will be celebrated in the book by presenting many well-know historical winning photos.

Although Tamale Safalu lost a leg in a serious motorcycle accident in 2020, he has remained true to his passion for bodybuilding competitions. He is the first disabled athlete in Uganda to compete against non-disabled athletes. His strength and determination, against all odds, defies stereotypes and is an inspiration to people from all walks of life. “By participating in bodybuilding competitions, I want to encourage other people with disabilities to recognize their talents and never give up,” says Tamale.
