Exhibition commemorating the 500th birthday of Conrad Gessner
A man of many talents and successes, Conrad Gessner was born on 16 March 1516 and became one of the century’s leading scientific figures. A naturalist, classical scholar and geologist, he was renowned internationally, due in part to his great talent for drawing. To commemorate Conrad Gessner’s 500th birthday, the National Museum Zurich has dedicated an exhibition to this universal scholar. The exhibition is being produced in close collaboration with the Zentralbibliothek Zürich, which owns parts of the Gessner estate.
