This colourful exhibition offers an insight into the history of a company operating at the intersection of art and commerce. Decade by decade, it presents a wide range of top-class printed products, from small-format advertisements and original graphic design to art reproductions and posters. It focuses in particular on the vision of the company’s founder, who in 1911 brought a printing shop, studios and an art gallery together under one roof in a newly constructed building. The traditional technique of lithography is illustrated with graphic work created by the artist Samuel Buri specially for the exhibition. The majority of the exhibits come from a donation to the Swiss National Museum by the descendants of J. E. Wolfensberger which was arranged through the Swiss Graphic Design Foundation. Cataloguing of the collection’s graphic art and photography holdings is being supported by the Engagement Migros development fund.
